Breeder of vom Hinterland GSPs
Outback GSP is a small family oriented breeder located in southern Texas. We take breeding dogs very seriously and only raise purebred, American Kennel Club (AKC) registered German Shorthaired Pointers. We are home to some of the finest pedigreed German Shorthaired Pointers in the world and we plan to continue raising the best. We only select potential breeding stock from the best show and working lines in the world, including International bloodlines out of Germany and Romania.
Health & Field Tested Dogs
Our dogs are health tested and clear from hereditary diseases that would be passed on to any and all offspring. While we do not breed our dogs often, we do not breed any dogs that have not passed their health testing and have been proven to perform the tasks the GSP was bred for. Of the available GSP puppies after we have chosen, none will be available with breeding rights until the pup is of ethical age, has been tested in natural ability through NAVHDA, and is OFA or PennHip clear for hips and elbows. Some of the health testing that we perform includes, but is not limited to: cone degeneration, degenerative myelopathy, hyperuricosuria, von Willebrand disease II, and OFA hip and elbow evaluations. While some of these genetic issues can be seen in any breed, the German Shorthaired Pointer may be at a higher risk for some diseases and conditions. This is why it is extremely important that when adding a GSP puppy to your home that you choose a breeder who health tests their breeding stock.
The origins of the GSP began in the 1700s with selective breeding of dogs with specific working traits and natural abilities. German hunters created what was described as "a staunchly pointing bird dog, a keen-nosed night trailer, a proven duck dog, a natural retriever on land and water, with pleasing confirmation and markings and great powers of endurance. An intelligent family watchdog and companion as well." Needless to say, Outback GSP strives to preserve those traits and abilities by allowing our dogs to perform and excel at the tasks the GSP was created to perform.
